However someone chooses to navigate that journey, My Local Hero is designed to support them.
Through expert interviews, practical guides, independent insights, educational resources, rich business profiles and trusted local information, we're creating more than a directory. We're building a trusted source of knowledge that helps people make better decisions.
But perhaps the biggest difference is this.
We're not here to tell people who to choose.
We're here to give people the knowledge, context and clarity to make that decision for themselves.
Choosing the right business shouldn't come down to guesswork, clever marketing or whoever appears first in a search result.
It should come from understanding the problem, recognising quality and knowing what to look for.
We don't believe confidence comes from seeing more information.

Like many people, I learned the hard way how difficult it can be to choose the right tradie.
After being burned myself, I realised the biggest problem wasn't finding a tradie—it was not knowing what I didn't know.
When you're dealing with a problem at home, you're often relying on someone else's knowledge and expertise. If you don't understand the problem, don't know what questions to ask, or don't know what a fair price looks like, you're in a vulnerable position.
Unfortunately, that's when costly mistakes happen.
Over the years, I've spoken to countless people who've had similar experiences. Many felt pressured into making quick decisions. Others paid for unnecessary work or chose the wrong person simply because they didn't have enough information to know any better.
Too often, the people most at risk are those who are vulnerable, including older Australians, women living alone, and anyone who simply doesn't have the knowledge or experience to know when something isn't right.
That shouldn't be normal.
My Local Hero started with a simple idea: if we can help people know what they don't know before they hire, they'll make better decisions.
If people understand more, ask better questions and make more informed choices, we can help reduce the stress, uncertainty and costly mistakes that too often come with hiring someone to work on your home.
That's the future I'm working towards.
